| A second academic study, previewed in a working paper released this week, shows that among the unintended consequences of Stand Your Ground laws is a "net increase in deaths," according to Raw Story. "Our findings raise serious doubts against the argument that Stand Your Ground laws make America safer," the authors wrote. Using homicide data from 2006 to 2008, the study by Georgia State University's Chandler McClellan and Erdal Tekin, found that "between 4.4 and 7.4 additional white males are killed each month as a result of these laws" in states that have adopted them. Tekin told Raw Story: "At least some of the people getting killed are bystanders, which is more than enough to raise serious concerns about these laws."
