Mark Meckler, Tea party co-founder quits

The brief announcement, which noted that Meckler "has done many good things for the movement," offered reassurance that the group remains fully committed to helping to expand the tea party movement's success.

Meckler was charged with a felony in December after he tried to check-in a Glock pistol and multiple units of 9mm ammunition on to a Delta airlines flight at New York City's LaGuardia Airport. After pleading guilty to disorderly conduct in January, he spoke out about his run-in with authorities, charging that New York City had committed "robbery" by not returning him his gun.

According to Friday's statement, Tea Party Patriots board member Ginny Rapini also resigned along with Meckler.
