Just moments after the Virginia House passed an amended version, state Sen. Jill Holtzman Vogel (R) announced she will seek to strike her controversial "abortion informed consent" bill, rather than accept a watered-down version passed by the House of Delegates. Her original legislation would have required women to undergo unnecessary and invasive ultrasound procedures prior to obtaining abortions, but a House amendment weakened that requirement. The move comes on the heals of late night mockery, public protest, and Gov. Bob McDonnell's (R) backtracking on his prior support of the measure. Vogel's decision likely means that her bill won't be considered this year.
