Paul is a naturalist, expedition leader for education and conservation biology research and a fixer for the film industry. His "day job" is as a marine biology educator on the Great Barrier Reef. After training as a photojournalist Paul left his home state and moved to the tropics where he has now spent over half of his life. A typical day at work might include, freediving and photographing the reef and teaching the public about systems ecology and marine biology, lecturing American University students in rainforest ecology, marine science and sustainability, leading extended jungle treks, doing location work and technical advising in remote locations for film productions. Paul's understanding of how the world works is informed by his journalistic training, his extensive travels and reading, his exposure to a diverse, very interesting assortment of friends and acquaintance from highly relevant, and sometimes quite scary, walks of life. He has found that when people are far out of their familiar world for extended periods, sitting around an expedition campfire with a good bottle of whiskey, they can open up and divulge the inner workings of the world they have left behind. This phenomenon has led to revelations which have shaped his perspective on many topics and significant events to which most people do not have inside access.
