Novel Futures A Nobody’s State of the World Address Why does everything appear suicidal?
Believing, for all of my semi-adult life that the United States Constitution and our system of capitalism within a representative democracy offered the best configuration for the protection of individual rights and honest trade.
Examining the accumulation of great wealth and power, and relating this to the rights of an individual and all global citizens (those without great wealth, like myself and everyone I know) to Live Free in a Healthy Environment.
Desperately wanting to understand and answer the question. Why does everything appear suicidal?
Searching for answers I am forced to stray far from a lifetime commitment as a devoted optimist. As I wade threw the cruelty and inhumanity with only an occasional glimpse of a human being in the splendor of achievement, my question may have been answered. The health of our World and our Country, Liberty and the Environment, the actions and apparent direction of the worlds powerful few, all caused serious hits to my optimistic core. The conclusion can be summarized as: There’s more real serious trouble coming very soon.
Since most of us have little need for expanding our authority over others and even find the thought quite distasteful. Use this fact to help you see. While you are living the good life surrounded by a loving, generous family with brilliant, dazzling children, grand neighbors and friends, good folks all. Look how easy it was for the powerful, malevolent few to grab control.
You may have already noticed and thought. So what? Nothing much has changed, business is good. There’s money in the bank. The neighbor’s boy is back from Iraq early, really sad about the loss of his legs. Oil prices still going up, smog’s bad today. Shame about that out of state company logging that old growth where grandpa and I went so many times. Something in the paper about not eating the fish from the river, another big fire out west….Pretty much the same as last year….
“Business is Business”
And now I am forced to see that business is not always what I had been taught. At first, thinking of what I had learned of as “bastard capitalism” I was then introduced to a rather descriptive term that is used within, hereafter; “Predatory Capitalism” and it flourishes in the United States. Fostered on the world in the name of American Business, this practice constitutes a deadly threat. Proof of which I now believe we have already received.
As I found myself practically consumed by the sickness of capitalist America’s ‘evil side.’ I judge that criminal ventures have always existed right along with the first honest tradesmen, but never with the organization and power of today. The past contains a long line of what were in fact criminal enterprises operated by very slick operators masquerading as businessmen. These are people who considered cheating, lying and willful misrepresentation to facilitate fraud as “business as usual.” The new generations of predators still commit whatever crime, including mass murder; if that is what it takes to further expand the organizations bloodied bankroll. Today’s predators I suspect to be a great deal more sophisticated with the majority of their subsidiaries returning an appearance of legally derived income and pay most of the taxes due. But then, the predators, as with the mob bosses glean the bulk of their enormous tax free income from hidden criminal sources. What frightens me even more is the vast array of “tools” available in this age that leaves 99% of us vulnerable to their total control. I strongly suspect there are multi-billionaire Predators, “Who would be King.”
It matters not at all to the Predatory Capitalist what heinous action might be required to further their nefarious aims and is practiced by an all too large portion of the business community. And I am afraid, many more United States individuals and business’s that believe that nothing is more important then adding to their already immense wealth and the power it represents, with no restrictions on the means. Nothing is as central to their greedy little minds as another dollar. Justification for any merciless act used in its acquiring is routine (everybody does it, you know).
These predator capitalists leave a legacy of hate, especially in developing countries where their money and power offer practically unlimited access to authority (the US also offers many examples, from the Appalachian coal mine owners to the reconstruction in Iraq). With profit the only motive the workers in their third world factory would mix the chemical ingredients for a particularly nasty pesticide. Protective masks were of course considered a ridicules drain on operating expenses for a desert dweller unable to read or write. Consequently seventy percent of the workforce is dead before age 30. They are easily replaced and no one really notices. But, the crimes add up as time passes and the hate festers.
Now, when I am grudgingly forced to accept that the predators have been banking their profits for decades on what they considered the immaterial deaths (done as in the casual stomping of a cockroach), of 10,000 dirty, ignorant Arabs (or Africans, or…). I began to get an idea of why someone (many someone’s it now seems) would hate you, and me, simply because we are American. A powerful hate akin to madness, that when coupled with a crippled religious dogma from the lunacy of their leaders allows them to commit suicide in such a way that the murder of a few thousand civilians, including women and children, can be completely justified.
No Way, you think…. How could anyone tolerate intentional harm to a child? And then I think of the predatory capitalists with their third world on-the-job training in poisonous thought, starvation wages, theft and fraud and murder as an everyday tool of American Style Business. No Way! And I am again forced to consider that these predators have been and continue today as the ‘school of business’ wherever they operate. The predators have spread a culture of greed over the centuries. And, now I’m getting angry as I see these slick tricksters impersonating the good men and women who found and manage most true global business.
And I begin to better understand these corrupt, slithering creatures; when I see how a CEO in the oil business could order the requested financing be clandestinely placed with an, as yet unheard of Arab organization. More the better, he learned, when his research department informed him that the leader of the organization’s father was a friend and another oilman.
Before and then during WWII, there were American (Predatory) Banking and Trust companies routinely doing business with Hitler’s Nazi Germany, as did many other US businesses, reportedly including GM and IBM. Some were caught. Most were not. Here then continues the example by example of a predatory capitalist whose immorality would never allow interference with the predators credo that, “Business is Business.” Period. There are NO exceptions. Ever. Why would there be? There are no rules except, “To Make Money.” And, “Don’t get caught.”
