Caricature of politicos in the Congress
Ah yes, once again, it's election day in America. The event every 2 and 4 years meant to do exactly what?
Bring "change", "Change you can believe in", radical change, transformational change or perhaps no change at all, keeping things as they are.
Regardless of all the hype we're exposed to each election cycle-because you name it we've all heard all the "pitches" it in one form or the other-there is one thing most assuredly elections in America won't bring; that's dealing with the real issues and problems facing America and the American people.
The people know what they are; restoring the middle class with jobs paying a living wage which could be done with a massive trillion dollar jobs program restoring and rebuilding our deteriorating infrastructure-roads, bridges, railroads to accommodate high speed trains, water aquifers, institute a Medicare type single payer health care system for all, restructuring and eliminating the $trillion in college student loan debt, restructure home loans and reduce home foreclosures, regulate the banks too big to fail, reduce their size, even nationalize them if necessary to prevent them perpetrating financial crisis, recessions and depressions, stop all fracking operations, expand wind and solar reducing coal and gas fired electrical facilities, take on corporate polluters, enact legislation that is environmental friendly to effectively deal with effects of global warming-these just the few that come to mind. And most importantly, amend the Constitution, overturn Citizens United, ban big corporate money from corrupting the electoral process and institute public financing of all elections, local, state and federal.
That last one mentioned above is really priority #1 as ALL our issues and problems stem from a rigged electoral process that's been overtaken by the big moneyed interests, that control the political agenda so the problems and issues that really affect the people languish, while the big corporate interests get what they want-laws and regulations enacted with oversight and enforcement that go to the benefit of those interests.
A legitimate question is how would all these reforms be paid for?
Well by significantly reducing the $ trillion dollar defense expenditures on unnecessary wars and occupations, multi-billion dollar aircraft carriers, nuclear submarines, fighter aircraft, attack helicopters, drones, tanks and other armaments, close all foreign military bases and installations, eliminate nuclear weapons, ABM systems, abide by the Geneva Convention and the U.N. whereby defending the country from imminent attack is the only justification for war. Also end the nonsensical global war on terrorism and while we're at it shutter the NSA, CIA and the other 15 "intelligence" organizations.
Of course none of these "reforms" are about to take place as a result of this election cycle or the next one or the next one after that ad infinitum.
That's because-as most of us know-big money has usurped the electoral process and exerts a stranglehold over the political process preventing anything from changing. Reform can not and will not happen.
Until conscience of those elected can be brought into play-which can only happen when the candidates chosen and elected are really accountable to the electorate where their conscience can be their guide and not beholden to those who underwrite their campaigns-voting under the current circumstances isn't gonna change a thing.
So yeah I voted, NOTA-None of the above.
