Professor Chossudovsky Is Wrong - Here Is How PCR Tests Work

The website Global Research provides at times interesting reading. It is edited by Michael Chossudovsky, an emeritus professor for economics. Unfortunately he at times writes about issues that are beyond his horizon.

In a recent piece, The Covid-19 Numbers Game: The "Second Wave" is Based on Fake Statistics, he falsely claims that the tests which are globally used to detect SARS-CoV-2 infections also react to other viruses and thereby deliver false results.

The method of the currently used SARS-CoV-2 test is based on the reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). The polymerase chain reaction can create millions of copies of RNA or DNA snippets fed into it:

Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is a method widely used to rapidly make millions to billions of copies of a specific DNA sample, allowing scientists to take a very small sample of DNA and amplify it to a large enough amount to study in detail.
...
Thermal cycling exposes reactants to repeated cycles of heating and cooling to permit different temperature-dependent reactions - specifically, DNA melting and enzyme-driven DNA replication. PCR employs two main reagents - primers (which are short single strand DNA fragments known as oligonucleotides that are a complementary sequence to the target DNA region) and a DNA polymerase.

A clinical probe is taken from a human who may have the virus. In a preparation phase the probe is chemically cleaned and the outer hulls of viruses in it get destroyed. What is left includes the genetic material of the virus.

The genes of the SARS-CpV-2 are an RNA sequence with roughly 30,000 nucleotides. It is like a book with 30,000 characters on how to build the virus. It is unique for this virus. The researchers who developed the SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR test have selected several unique snippets of about 100 nucleotides long out of the much longer string. Complementary oligonucleotides of the same length will then get synthesized. These are the primers for all following PCR tests.

The cleaned sample (10 to 200 µL), the primers and the polymerase are fed into a machine. Repeated cycles of heating and cooling will each multiply the number of RNA snippets in the sample. Luminescent markers are added to get an automatically readable result. Typically some 20-25 cycles are needed to detect the virus RNA snippets of an acute infection. When more cycles (typically up to 40) are used even a minimal amount of a specific virus RNA snippet can be detected. The process is highly automated.

Chossudovsky has not understood how the above process works. Specifically he has not understood that the selection of the oligonucleotides for the primer is very specific to the type of virus the test is supposed to detect.

Thus he is wrong when he writes:

According to Dr. Pascal Sacre', "these tests detect viral particles, genetic sequences, not the whole virus"

What this means is that the PCR test cannot detect or identify SARS-CoV-2. What it detects are fragments, which suggests that a standard "PCR positive" cannot be equated to a so-called Covid-19 Positive.

The PCR test will pick up fragments of several viruses including corona viruses as well as influenza (flu viruses A and B)

While SARS-2 which causes Covid-19 is considered to be similar to SARS-CoV-1, it has similar symptoms to seasonal influenza (Viruses A and B). Moreover, some of its milder symptoms are similar to those of the common cold corona viruses. According to the CDC: "Sometimes, respiratory secretions are tested to figure out which specific germ is causing your symptoms. If you are found to be infected with a common coronavirus (229E, NL63, OC43, and HKU1), that does not mean you are infected with the 2019 novel coronavirus."

According to the CDC there are "seven [human] coronaviruses that can infect people" the first four of which (alpha, beta) are associated with the common cold.
...
In the above context, what this means is that a PCR test will pick up fragments of corona as well as influenza viruses. It will not be able to identify individual viruses including SARS-2.

"Fragments of viruses positive" does not mean "SARS-2 positive" (or Covid-19 Positive). The PCR test may pick up fragments of influenza viruses (A, B) as well as common cold beta coronaviruses (e.g. OC43, HKU1).

This highlighted passages are as wrong as one can possibly get it wrong. The RT-PCR tests for SARS-CoV-2 DO NOT detect other types of viruses.

This is Mythland and no truth goes unopposed. Chossudovsky wins.

Could you next tell us how a positive result on a bogus test becomes a case?

Usually I don't need a test to tell me if I have a flu-like illness. This has gotten too crazy to not be a psy-op: immunity passports, contact tracing, and all the germophobias.

Chossudovsky's denial of the second COVID wave remined me of a picture I saw once where some vandal scribbled on a wall that "Global Warming Is a Myth" only the statement was half obscured by flood water.

The PCR PROCESS was never intended to be used as a diagnostic test. Depending on the number of test cycles, it finds fragments or garbage and amplifies it to say positive. Depending on the cycle numbers, the false positives can skyrocket, at 60 cycles one gets 100% positives (16 minutes in). One can be totally non-infectious to anyone and without any viral sickness and still have a scrap of RNA that is of no consequence to anyone, but gets multiplied to nonsense. How can that be enough reason to be quarantined, contact traced, and all the other unconstitutional abuses?

This whole thing stinks and I am surprised that Moon of Alabama is shilling for it.

I agree that what you are saying is the main problem: that the sensitivity of the test can be controlled by one's desire of an outcome to include people who may harbor a small amount of the virus but not nearly enough to actually cause illness. Our bodies are continually fighting off viruses, and it's only when our immune systems become overwhelmed by large numbers that we actually become ill.

With a nom de plume, Moon Over Alabama, methinks this person or undercover group has given away its credible right to question frankly anyone who has forthrightly presented him/herself. Certainly this MOA has a first amendment right to its opinion. What "they" cry fowel on has been thoroughly debunked by the inventor of the PCR a number of times on the public record in extended video discussions. Moon Over Alabama come out, come out wherever/whoever you are.

To add some context to this comment "whoever you are" and overall discussion: Moon of Alabama is a widely read blog published by a fairly far left German who uses the pen name "b," which upon further research stands for Bernhardt. He supports the site from crowd-funding, sometimes attached with a self-description as a "Poor Poet."

He's clearly a workaholic via his considerable daily output of articles on cutting-edge issues. IMO, his best focus is on interpretation of war-and-peace issues, often involving Syria and nearby regions, where he often cuts through U.S. explanations to describe his interpretation of on-the-ground developments and their importance. Sometimes he gets out of his zone of knowledge, again IMO, as when his antipathy to neo-liberal Democrats led him erroneously to predict a big Republican House victory in 2018 (neglecting that many Americans care about domestic issues such as health care). His blog's title, "Moon of Alabama," is derived from the iconoclastic work of Brecht and Lenya -- and not (at least directly) from the U.S. state of that name.

Regarding his theme here, it's my belief that he's earned the right for a respectful hearing of his views by his efforts through the years but that doesn't necessarily mean he's correct on all matters, especially when specific medical expertise is so helpful.

You are probably right, although I do not know all the details of his c.v.

But the same criterion applies to Michael Chossudovsky and the vast majority of other commenters.

The limited purpose of my comment was provide some bio info on the author, which at least one reader commenter here seemed to lack, and not to opine on the ultimate issues. I've studied disease causation at law school in a seminar taught by an M.D. holder whose legal practice focused on helping victims achieve compensation. But that background is relatively modest compared to the expertise of others in this vital global debate.

A discussion which mirrors this is the use of the PCR test for HIV. While there is no scientific proof that HIV causes AIDS it did not stop Dr.Fauci and his cohorts from pouring over 1/2 trillion $$$ into HIV medications and vaccines (which were never produced). Their "cures" actually made patients deathly sick. AIDS is a generic disease encompassing diseases we've had for many years. It's a label. The first "cases" had to do with some people who abused their bodies with drugs and poor eating habits leaving them malnourished. Nothing to do with sexual orientation. The inventor of the PCR was adament about not using it for HIV or any other diagnotic tests. People's lives have been destroyed due to false positives for HIV. This is a dangerous use of the R-PCR and should be stopped. I now understand why Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. despices Fauci. Fauci is extremely powerful and his propensity to push unscientific remedies in the name of science makes him a dangerous actor on the world's stage.

Follows is what I find really disturbing about MoA defending the PCR test. It is what many in the alternative media are guilty of too. They are defending a part of the Covid-19 scandemic which legitimises the whole fascist Covid-19 program. Who cares if the PCR test is accurate or not? We shouldn't. It is like arguing that Hitler loved cats. Regardless of Hitler's love of cats, he was an evil person and everything about him was evil. Everything about the scamdemic is evil too.

The alternative media's roll is to expose evil programs of the government and the psychopaths behind them. The lockdown is evil, medical martial law is evil, forced vaccination is evil, mass biological tracing and bio-surveillance is evil, forcing people to wear face masks is evil, profiteering on the scamdemic is evil, the bailout of the banks and corporations is evil, immunity passports are evil, forcing people into unemployment and starvation is evil, bankrupting small businesses is evil, foreclosing on people's homes and auto is evil,,, everything about the Covid-19 scamdemic is evil. The government doesn't care if the PCR test is accurate or not. It is only interested in making people comply to the fascist scamdemic.

The government is not interested in your health, welfare, livelihood, benefit and happiness. There is ample proof of that or else the people would have universal healthcare, and the Cares Act would have bailed out the people and not just the banks.

The Covid-19 virus may be real. The PCR test may be 100% accurate. Everything else, the profiteering, the fascist government programs, the bio-security police state, and the harm being inflicted on the people, not by Covid-19, but by the government is the pandemic. We can deal with and get over Covid-19. We will never get over the government abuses. This is what MoA and all of alternative media should be focusing on.

The lawsuits over the 2020 scandal are starting. Mercola's title today of "Coronavirus Fraud Scandal The Biggest Fight Has Just Begun" at Click Here talks about how the "cases" using the PCR test to generate numbers makes this a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test pandemic.

====

Story at-a-glance

  • The German Corona Extra-Parliamentary Inquiry Committee (Außerparlamentarischer Corona Untersuchungsausschuss), launched July 10, 2020, was founded by four trial attorneys to investigate and prosecute those responsible for implementing the economically devastating lockdowns around the world, as well as using fraudulent testing to engineer the appearance of a dangerous pandemic
  • The Corona Extra-Parliamentary Inquiry Committee will be working with an international network of lawyers to argue the most massive tort case ever a case described as "probably the greatest crime against humanity ever committed"
  • They argue that pandemic measures were intended to sow panic so that the pharmaceutical and tech industries can generate huge profits from the sale of PCR tests, antigen and antibody tests and vaccines, and the harvesting of our genetic fingerprints
  • Lockdowns were unnecessary, and any claim to the contrary is wrong, the Inquiry Committee insists. The virus was already in retreat and infection rates were starting to decline when lockdowns were imposed; scientific evidence shows a majority of people already have built-in protection against the virus due to cross-reactive T cell immunity, and the PCR test cannot be used to identify an active infection with SARS-CoV-2 or any other virus
  • While mortality statistics during the pandemic have been within the norms of any given year, meaning the pandemic has not resulted in an excess number of deaths or a death toll higher than normal, the collateral damage from pandemic response measures is nearly incalculable

I follow you doggedly though I rarely comment, usually impressed. I've been a little less

Autumn temperatures are repeating regularly, sometimes below 0 deg. Celsius, daytimes
