Freedom of Speech" or License to Lie?

Most Americans are well aware of what is called our right to "Freedom of Speech". They are apparently unaware that this "Right" carries with it the responsibility that is attached to every Right we are granted by our Constitution. This "Freedom" does not allow lies, slander, falsehoods, or any other innuendos that are incorrect. In these troubled times with our so-called "free press" and media being owned by the ever growing mega-corporations who threaten all of our freedoms, the truths and facts we are being fed do not amount to anything resembling "news" at all. We have been manipulated and lied to by almost every source of information we have access to.

The assumption that our politicians are lying has been around as long as the politicians have been, but the sanctity of our "free press" has seldom been openly questioned. The fruits of this are beginning to be fully realized as our nation has begun to crumble into a state of anarchy at almost all levels. The amount of hatred is topped only by the level of mis-information being thrown around on our news sources, our government, and our internet blogs. We have descended into many groups of raving hyenas who spout "facts" which have no basis other than the lies or mis-information spouted by others, whether professional or amateur sourced. Complete lunacy has become a way of life in what used to be a relatively intelligent nation of relaxed freedom loving peoples. Currently our Congresspersons and President are getting death threats due to their passing a new healthcare package that no one actually knows the truth about. To say that this is absurd really does not begin to cover the insanity we have become. The insanity we are mired in covers almost every walk of our lives. Religions, political parties, philosophies(liberal vs conservative), and simple differences(skin colors, nationalities, etc.) have become severe hot buttons that set off the most superficial rants from people that normally would quite upset about these ravings.

The primary offenders responsible for all of these falsehoods are many. The ravings of the shock jock radio/TV personalities, the political mudslinging and slander of the politicos, the lunacy that runs amuck on internet blogs, and the conspiracies (real or imagined) that are attached to almost anything that happens, all are ravaging our society to the point that no one is concerned about why all of this is happening. We are all involved with our own little crazed conspiracy and are failing to step back and see the entire picture. The surely must be what ancient Rome looked like as it was falling to all of its many ailments. It seems like we have become on very large inbred nest of snakes or rats. No matter which, it is for sure that our ship is sinking and we have no one to blame but ourselves, with a great deal of help from the mega-corporations who are the only ones that stand to profit from all of this.

"Alice in Wonderland" looks like a walk in the park compared to our country's current mess. There is no clear way of bringing this sheer lunacy back into a sane venue, if, in fact, one even exists. How does one call for a time-out for an entire nation? There are few people, if any, that the majority of our citizens would listen to or believe in. Even if there was how can they communicate to this nation since our lines of communication have been fouled, cut, or warped to an unfixable degree. Even George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Jesus Christ, Mohammed, or Moses would not be believed by the majority of our people. So, "Who you gonna call?"Â We must come to our collective senses soon or there will be no United States of America left to make itself safe for Democracy, let alone the rest of this planet!
