Biblical Double Bind

If love is both our highest virtue and
The way that Satan gets beneath our skin;
If Christian agape is strict command,
But carnal love (or thought of it!) is sin;
No wonder that we're hopelessly perplexed.
We cannot conjure love by acts of will,
We're ever underloved and oversexed,
While basic human needs we seek to fill
Are buried deep in sanctimonious shame.

Beseeching absolution from God's wrath,
Entrained by currents that we dare not name,
We want for light to seek the blessed path
That never one alone but only two
Can see -- So, may I have this dance with you?

So why is God so full of wrath anyway?

Sometimes it all just feels to me like a trap.

We are as ill-equipped to reach the union we crave as my dog is to reach the treat she wants.

She depends wholly upon my grace to receive what she drools for. Some dogs must do tricks for treats; some must obey for treats. And some dogs get kicked if they beg for one.

I'd never tell my dog to get her own treats. She would quite rightfully scream at me about her lack of height and opposable thumbs. For her, I am the omnipotent one, after all.

The endless double binds, the riddles, the disciplines, the mysteries ... they both fascinate me and wear me out.

I don't believe God is full of wrath at all times.

He would be perfectly be justified, in my opinion, if he were .

Men have rebelled against God's commands and the end result is

the horrid world we currently live in. God never promised life in this

world would be easy, but he did promise everlasting life to those who

put faith in him and his son Jesus.

In the poem it says that carnal love is sin.

Just for your info, the Bible doesn't say that.

If that were the case all married people would be living

in sin.
