Quote of the day: "Faith is the worst curse of mankind, as the exact antithesis and enemy of thought." - Ayn Rand
Research Topic: Mixed Economy
Ayn Rand (Russian American novelist and philosopher, 1905 - 1982) had extreme contempt for conservatives, religious and spiritually-minded people, non-intellectuals, and do-gooders - she probably would have stoned Mother Theresa and Bob Geldof if she could have gotten at them. David Barton (Mr. Beck's Revisionist Historical Hobbyist in Residence) would not have been safe around her. So, how in the hell is he being allowed to use her, her institute, and her novel ('Atlas Shrugged') as justification for - Barack Obama "Socialist." She would have literally puked and howled obscenities at his "Restore Honor Rally" - no, she was much to intellectual for that - she would have Bar-B-Qued him on the Sunday Morning Political talk shows.
Miss Rand was born in Russia, was the child of a comfortably successful Jewish pharmacist, and lived through the changes and suffering of the Russian revolution. Her father's pharmacy was confiscated by the Bolsheviks and the family had to move away from her home town and naturally, this was profoundly life-changing and traumatic. She consequently developed a deep contempt and hatred for communism and socialism - they had stolen something from her and negatively altered her life. Being an intellectual and a writer she spent the rest of her life venting her rage and intellectually justifying her position, which developed into a philosophy she called "Objectivism" that she described as, "The concept of man as a heroic being, with his own happiness as the purpose of his life , with productive achievement as his noblest activity, and reason as his only absolute." By way of illustration: I've only met one individual that considered themselves an "Objectivist" and she was great fun to argue with but as a friend and lover she was frightening in her selfishness and contempt for charity.
Ayn Rand was no Rodeo Clown or Rodeo Clown's friend. Glenn Beck has been talking on and on about Faith, Hope, and Charity on his various programs, putting it on flags, posters, and t-shirts and also using Ayn Rand and her Institute as justification and talking points. This is one of the most heinous examples of intellectual theft I have ever witnessed - he has dug Miss Rand up and adorned her with grease paint and bright colored ribbons, it's a sacrilege (she would have hated this word, but I think it is apropos).
Is he just stupid or is he an evil genius? Does he really not know her background and philosophy or has he pre-meditatively co-opted it for his very dishonest purposes? I have made references to this before - this smells like the actions of someone who has assiduously pondered and studied the rise of Nazism and National Socialism and the methods of Joseph Goebbels (Reich Minister of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda) - co-opt everything you can that a society holds dear, bend it to your purposes and repeat lies over and over again as truth: Obama is a Socialist, Obama is a Socialist, Obama is a Socialist, Obama is a Socialist.............
scary isn't it?
