On January 20, Chief Justice John Roberts administered Obama's official oath of office. At midday, it was done quietly. It took two minutes in the White House Blue Room.
On January 21, public theater followed. Pomp and circumstance continued ad nauseam.
Ceremonial excess included patriotic music, bells pealing, the traditional post-inaugural parade and ball, parties, and candlelight celebrations throughout the evening.
Flags adorned Washington buildings, banks, commercial establishments, hotels, metal barriers, concrete ones, and a presidential reviewing stand.
Hundreds of thousands assembled. They filled the National Mall. Few got close enough to see much. Why they came, they'll have to explain.
Most people watched on television. Doing so wasted time better spent on constructive things.
Obama repeated Sunday's oath. He promised "to the best of (his) ability, to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."
He lied like he always does. He's a serial liar. He spurns international, constitutional, and US statute laws. He does so with impunity.
