Others say that drugs provide a quick, efficient, harmless solution to relieve pain, anxiety, stress, unhappiness and other problems and do not cause any harm and that it is unrealistic to expect people to make major changes in their lifestyles. Biofeedback is a non-drug, non-surgical alternative which involves training and coaching to help patients learn greater self-control of their body physiology - brainwaves, heartrate, muscle tension, breathing - so they can reduce stress, pain and anxiety, increase attention and optimally maintain other body functions to relieve symptoms and maintain higher levels of health. It is also used with stroke and spinal cord victims, incontinence and post-surgery patients to strengthen and rehabilitate muscles. Biofeedback is an approach to health that involves both relieving or healing illness and optimizing health and performance. Olympic athletes also use it for peak performance.
