The President, in a released statement on the anniversary of the United Nations Convention Against Torture, declared, " I join people around the world in honoring the victims of torture, paying tribute to all those who are courageously working to eradicate these inhuman practices from our world, and reaffirming the commitment of the United States to achieving this important goal."
The President visited Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he toured the university's National Robotics Engineering Center and delivered remarks, announcing the launch of the Advanced Manufacturing Partnership (AMP), a national effort to bring together industry, universities, and the federal government to invest in the emerging technologies to seed high quality manufacturing jobs and enhance the global competitiveness of the United States. The President's plan would leverage existing programs and proposals with an investment of more than $500 million to jumpstart the effort. Transcript Video

The White House released visitor records that were generated in March 2011, including several visitor records generated prior to September 16, 2009 that were requested by members of the public in May 2011 pursuant to the White House voluntary disclosure policy. The release brought the grand total of records that the Obama White House had released to nearly 1.4 million records that can be viewed on the White House website at the Disclosures section.
