The President met with National Endowment for Democracy's 2011 Democracy Award Recipients: Jamel Bettaieb , a young Tunisian blogger, teacher, and labor union activist from the town where Mohammed Bouazizi lit himself on fire, and Zahraa Said, the sister of Khalid Said, a young Egyptian businessman whose killing, after he posted a video with evidence of police corruption, spawned the now-famous Facebook page called, "We Are All Khalid Said," which was a major catalyst in Egypt's recent revolution. The President, in a released statement , commended the Government of Sudan and the Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM) for signing an agreement in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to reduce tensions in Abyei and allow UN peacekeepers from Ethiopia into the region.

The President announced Dr. Jill Biden would lead these members of a Presidential delegation to Athens, Greece to attend the Special Olympics World Summer Games:   Daniel B. Smith, U.S. Ambassador to the Hellenic Republic, Department of State, Ann Stock, Assistant Secretary for Educational and Cultural Affairs, Department of State, Kareem Dale, Special Assistant to the President for Disability Policy, Micki Edelsohn, Member, President's Committee for People with Intellectual Disabilities,   Bart Conner, Olympic Champion in Gymnastics, Special Olympics Executive Board Member and Mr. Kenneth Melvin, Special Olympics Global Manager.
