Delivering to the Qattan Centre for the Child Original Letters "To Gaza With Love" from the US Boat to Gaza, The Audacity of Hope
Ann Wright, Pam Bailey and Qattan Centre staff member for public relations and Heyam El Hayek, Library Services Coordinator
One of the most uplifting stops on my visit to Gaza was to the Qattan Centre for the Child. Fellow American Gaza activist Pam Bailey and I stopped there to deliver several hundred of the thousands of letters to Gaza that were written by citizens from around the world. The letters were to be carried to Gaza in the summer of 2011 on the US Boat to Gaza, the Audacity of Hope, which was one of eight boats forbidden to leave Greek ports by the Greek government.
Some of the thousands of letters were carried on the "Tahrir" boat in the November, 2011 Freedom Waves attempt to break the naval blockade of Gaza. The Israeli government confiscated the letters from the "Tahrir" and has not sent the letters to Gaza.
Our letters will form an exhibit in the Qattan Centre to demonstrate to the children of Gaza that we have not forgotten them and that we will continue to challenge the naval and land blockades of Gaza that have made their home a prison.
