Later in the day they were visited by the incoming School Superintendent Cindy Marten. She told me, after visiting with the parents, that "I support all kinds of efforts to enhance the stability at home."
She added, "if there is no work, the children will worry where their next meal will come from." In her mind we need to create "safe heavens for children," and while she cannot fix it now, it is important for the parents to know that the school district will do the best to enhance the well being of their children.
"We need community reform. We do it together."
