They were "super-weapons grade." Special electro-static treatment created a trillion spores per gram. Only a government lab could produce it.
Boyle contacted counterterrorism expert Spike Bowman. He met him earlier at a University of Michigan Law School conference. Bowman said the FBI was working with Fort Detrick on the matter.
Each Pentagon branch is represented among its 7,800 military, federal and contractor employees. Four cabinet level agencies are represented.
They include the Department of Homeland Security, Department of Agriculture, Department of Health and Human Services, and Department of Defense. Laboratories conduct various research projects.
Post-9/11 anthrax was military grade. Subsequent reports confirmed it. In May 2002, the New Scientist said:
"The DNA sequence of the anthrax sent through the US mail in 2001 has been revealed and confirms suspicions that the bacteria originally came from a US military laboratory."Data released used "code names for the reference strains against which the attack strain was compared."
"But New Scientist can reveal that the two reference strains that appear identical to the attack strain most likely originated at the US Army Medical Research Institute for Infectious Diseases at Fort Detrick (USAMRIID), Maryland."
After Boyle informed Bowman, FBI officials ordered the AMES cultural anthrax database destroyed.
