As discussed above, authoritarianism or the authoritarian personality is manifest in The Greatest Evil. This fringe of the fringe, for organizations or individuals, represents a disposition in favor of social hierarchy, inequality, and use of severe punishment to maintain social and economic inequality. Education Professor Henry Giroux made the following statements on authoritarianism in a recent article:
Authoritarian personalities are typical leaders in authoritarian systems like totalitarian governments, and fundamentalist economic and religious systems. We've seen the evil authoritarian leaders of Fascist, Imperialist, Stalinist and GQP politics. These evils have been amplified/funded by authoritarian economic systems like slavery, feudalism, and capitalism."Violence is the oxygen of authoritarianism."
"The culture of violence has intensified since the 1980s and has found a privileged place in the cult of authoritarianism in the United States. "
''The cult of violence in the U.S. is inseparable from the cult of authoritarianism and the rise of neoliberal fascism." (This statement is a good description for the fringe of the fringe - The Greatest Evil.)
In the USA, we have a Republican Party dominated by authoritarian personalities as documented by John Dean in Authoritarian Nightmare In fact in the USA, data collection/analysis by Dean confirms that the dominant personality in the Republican Party is right-wing authoritarian. Left-wing authoritarians, like Stalin, are almost non existent in the USA.
These Republican authoritarians are about 25% of our population and 31% of registered voters. Our hope is to see more unity against this authoritarianism. Here is what Henry Giroux suggested for unity:
"Against this authoritarian death machine, we all need to mobilize to turn despair into militant hope, critical analysis into action, and individual anger into collective struggles that refuse the seductions of gangster capitalism and its rebranded fascism."
