HW: Yes!
We can get a national holiday for voting, as Bernie Sanders has now proposed. We can start with just that first Tuesday after the first Monday in November. But it should include the whole four-day weekend.
We can get universal automatic voter registration, universal hand-counted paper ballots and abolition of the Electoral College.
It's a simple program. How do we win it? Well, THAT's the $64 trillion question. But we have to find a way or we have nothing even vaguely resembling a democracy.
JB: How can people learn more about these proposals? Can you give us specific websites and other resources or actions so that we can get beyond the "poor me, poor us"?
We need a full-scale democratic grassroots movement to reclaim the electoral process and our democracy. It will not come from the Democratic Party.
But the agenda is clear. The websites and organizations from which this movement will come may not yet exist A winning strategy has not yet been formed. But it's clear we have our work cut out for us.
It's easy to lose hope but we have been in impossible situations before and have somehow survived and even triumphed.
