The movie will tour the country in 2008, beginning with the West Coast and then Colorado and Minnesota. Mary Ann said she would arrange screenings in South Jersey and the Philadelphia area. Opednews.com is offering promotional copies and will be selling the DVDs after that.
For the last ten minutes of the show, John Gideon of votersunite.org came on to give voting news—the first time in a month since the hour has been so taken up. He announced that according to Michael Martínez of the national journal Tech Daily Congressman Rush Holt (D-NJ) has written new legislation in anticipation of election 2008, sure that his HR 811 will not be passed in time for it. The bill will give states with paperless machines the option to vote on a paper ballot, funded by the federal government. Though provisional ballots are usually tossed out as irrelevant to the final outcome, the paper ballots will be counted, Gideon said.
The new Holt bill also includes an audit. And hope, as does Gov. Ehrlich’s brave decision in Maryland.
Gideon doesn’t think the initiative will accomplish much. Even when a bill is passed in the House almost unanimously, the Senate may react differently.
Who knows what’s going to happen?” he asked, anticipating the impending primaries but mainly election 2008. “Who knows?”
