If you were not with them, you were fair game. Opening doors to Europe was appealing to many in Eastern Ukraine until the National Socialists took over the protest. It's not hard to understand why they want to fight this. This is what is planned today.

Politics Then and NowAfter the war many thousands of the Nazi SS regulars emigrated west. Many more thousands stayed and settled around their old capital of Lviv and the Galicia region. They lived their lives and raised their families.
They were never tried for war crimes. They brought their children up as National Socialists along the party line they learned from Hitler's 3rd Reich. Nationalist parties in Ukraine today follow the same politic as the OUN and the Nazi Party followed then.
This is the source of the hatred of Russia, and all things Russian. These Nazi's lost the war, and their chance to carve Ukraine into a National Socialist (Nazi) State. Russia freed Ukraine, and if you listen to them, Russia is responsible for everything they don't like and everything wrong with their world. This hatred is their political doctrine written by their current leader's great uncle.
When pressured about Russia's intervention at Maidan the National Socialist expert admitted it was; "Russia's insistence that if Ukraine was going to Europe it would not be at the expense of the Russian taxpayer."
They represent a very tiny part of the Ukrainian population even in Western Ukraine . They took over the Euro-Maidan and divided the people into groups of 100's to set up their own leadership. Even the slogans they use are foreign to Ukrainian use.
The National Socialists don't want freedom. The Nationalist Socialists want the freedom to enslave all the people in Ukraine.
If you read the articles about them, the people that support change at Maidan, the crowds of people, even the official Maidan Public Relations group is afraid of what will happen when the Nazis gain power especially with Pravy Sektor in the mix.
Today"Member of Svoboda's Lviv City Council Yuriy Mykhalchyshyn maintains a blog called nachtigal88 , the nachtigall a reference to the Nazi battalion formed in Ukraine, with the 88 seeming to represent a binary version of "Heil Hitler ". Graham Phillips note: Yes that is a swastika on the politician's website.
The largest difference Mr. Mykhalchyshyn draws between German National Socialism (Nazi) and Ukrainian National Socialism (the Nazism that survived WW2) is the German mistake of racial purity. From its inception Ukrainian National Socialists dropped this from the party doctrine. Ukraine is made of mixed races, purity is counted in language.

The leader of Svoboda has been declared persona non grata in the US because of his anti-Semitic views. The Simon Wiesenthal center has branded him on the list of top 10 anti-Semitic politicians alive today. Svoboda " is rooted in the Social-National Party, a far-right movement ideologically aligned with Nazism ." Svoboda is the 4th largest political party.
Mr. Tyahnybok is part of the OUN (B) or Stepan Bandera faction. He is the leader of their far right political party Svoboda . " Tyahnybok has praised supporters for being the "worst fear of the Jewish-Russian mafia.
