Hansberry smiled at Kennedy. Baldwin recalls thinking how he was so glad she was not smiling at me.

In an interview conducted by Dr. Clark later that day, Baldwin talked about his fear of living in a country that so believed in its myths of Self and Others. The US was suffering from moral apathy. He continues, these people have deluded themselves [for] so long they dont think Im human.

Sixty-two years later, Black necks and white anger are still clashing, with the latter threatening to destroy American life, if it doesnt have its way! If Black Americans insist on reminding white America about poverty, education, housing, climate change, wealth inequality, and slavery, then it's a matter of convincing American citizens and the world that Black people are worthy of existence.

The US is subject to a fascist tyrant in 2025 whose masked Storm Troopers see in those not Anglo-American the right to be cruel beyond law. It might seem fantastical to imagine Black bodies picking strawberries. It was unbelievable to Africans to discover the disappearance of a son and then a wife, followed by a husband, a tribal prince. Follow the cruel logic of Trump when he speaks of a Gaza without the Palestinians, but all filled with brightness.

Blacks are being removed from political positions and replaced by the mediocreas long as its a white men! Texas, following the orders of the Dear Leader, is posed to remove Black representation in the US House.

No longer will a college or university receive government funding if it continues to honor diversity, equity, and inclusion policies.

The fantasy of the angry white men is becoming a reality. It's the Trump regime on our necks, reminding white citizens that Blacks are criminal. Take a look at those cities in which Black mayors are in charge. Criminal is as out of control in those cities as is the Smithsonian, with its exhibits of the lived experiences of the enslaved during slavery. Those who are criminal, lie: slavery wasn't bad at all!

Let's focus on the brightness that, according to Trump, engulfs white America. How ironic! We are never far from that history of innocence, even when fascist attempt to clear away the dirty history of conquest and enslavement. Funny how that history of innocence is, ultimately, never bright enough!
