Tellingly, Imran Khan's PTI is the only political party that has deep roots in all the provinces of Pakistan. There are PTI governments in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Biltistan. Sindh province is ruled by the Pakistan Peoples' Party while Muslim Leage Nawaz has lost its root in Punjab to PTI.

The election battle comes as the South Asian nation deals with the highest inflation in 13 years and as foreign exchange reserves drop to less than two months import cover. Moody's Investors Service downgraded Pakistan's outlook to negative.
