Finally, because of your interest in open-systems theory, I would call your attention to Ong's essay "Voice and the Opening of Closed Systems" in his book Interfaces of the Word (1977, pages 305-341). In effect, Ong is aligning oral culture 2.0 with the opening of closed systems. Because print culture 2.0 is also involved in the opening of closed systems, I see print culture 2.0 as a byproduct of oral culture 2.0.
In my estimate, anti-60s conservatives feel deeply threatened by the opening of closed systems. Concerning anti-60s conservatives, see Philip Jenkins' book Decade of Nightmares: The End of the Sixties and the Making of Eighties America (2006).
