Gregory "You considered her fair game in this debate?"
Rove "No. And you know what? Fair game, that wasn't my phrase."
Herr Karl exhibits no humanity as he's emulating his boss .Gregory tried to drag in Bush with a tape of the "bubble boy" saying "If there's a leak out of my administration, I want to know who it is. And if the person has violated laws, that person will be taken care of."
Gregory didn't have time but he could have asked Herr Karl about the Hatch Act and how he has violated it as the article "How Rove Directed Federal Assets for GOP Gains" at
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/08/18/AR2007081801182.html
points out. It states "The U.S. Office of Special Counsel and the House Government Reform and Oversight Committee are investigating whether any of the meetings violated the Hatch Act, which prohibits government employees from using federal resources for election activities. They also want to know whether any Bush appointees pressured government for favorable actions such as grants to help GOP electoral chances."What we are seeing is the tip of a whole effort to make the federal government a subsidiary of the Republican Party. It was all politics, all the time," Rep. Henry A. Waxman (D-Calif.), chairman of the oversight committee, said last week. The White House has repeatedly said that Rove's team stayed within the confines of federal law and that the meetings were an effort to ensure the president's agenda and those who supported it were fully promoted."
Since it was good enough for Herr Karl, the man he is masquerading as the US Attorney General--but is really only W's personal lawyer, Gonzales, adopted the policy as the article "Gonzales seen as politicizing Justice Dept" at http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/08/19/AR2007081900529.html
points out as "Not since the Watergate scandal more than 30 years ago has the U.S. Justice Department been as politicized as under Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, current and former officials said. They said the department's integrity has been damaged, employee morale has been hurt and Gonzales' relations with the Democratic-controlled Congress have deteriorated beyond repair in a firestorm of criticism from lawmakers, including some Republicans...."
I haven't seen Congress say he's done anything wrong," Bush said at a recent news conference. "As a matter of fact, I believe we're watching ... a political exercise."On Capitol Hill, an agreement on temporary legislation allowing Bush to maintain his controversial domestic spying program almost was scuttled, in part because of Gonzales' role in carrying out the program, congressional officials said.Mark Corallo, a spokesman for the prior attorney general, John Ashcroft, said relations between Gonzales and the Senate Judiciary Committee have deteriorated beyond repair."
John Ashcroft never was an example of compassion for the masses. He's an insider of the GOP, but he couldn't support W's illegal NSA eavesdropping of US citizens or Gonzales, his successor.
The article "Secret Court Asks For White House View on Inquiry" at
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wpdyn/content/article/2007/08/17/AR2007081701923.html
states "A secret U.S. intelligence court has ordered the Bush administration to register its views about a records request by the American Civil Liberties Union, which wants the court to release a series of pivotal orders issued earlier this year about the National Security Agency's wiretapping program....The ACLU has asked the court for copies of orders it issued in January related to the NSA's warrantless surveillance program, which had been operated without court oversight since late 2001 and which has been the focus of fierce congressional debate. The group is also seeking a copy of one or more court orders issued in the spring that, according to administration officials and congressional Republicans, concluded that parts of the program are illegal. The orders helped provoke Congress to overhaul the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act this month, giving U.S. spy agencies expanded powers to eavesdrop on foreign suspects without a court order."
These ghouls are hard to understand, but both the Democrats and the 4th estate are culpable for W's litany of crimes. All it takes for evil to thrive is for the good to stand idle and that is what is happening in the US now.
