Some months later, a video emerged from August 28 in which Bush was briefed on the growing tragedy - and in which he does not ask one single question as the situation is outlined to him.
That's this presidency in a nutshell: substantive incompetence and indifference at every turn, yet great care taken with the photo-ops. This was the week that
sunk the Bush presidency, and deservedly so.What a tragedy that one of America's greatest cities had to sink as collateral damage."
He's letting the top 99% suffer, and he's allowing their children to be decimated for what? Back in January of 2007, just 9 months ago Rove's puppet said "I've made it clear to the Prime Minister and Iraq's other leaders that
America's commitment is not open-ended. If the Iraqi government does not follow through on its promises, it will lose the support of the American people - and it will lose the support of the Iraqi people. Now is the time to act.The Prime Minister understands this. Here is what he told his people just last week: "The Baghdad security plan will not provide a safe haven for any outlaws, regardless of [their] sectarian or political affiliation...
A successful strategy for Iraq goes beyond military operations. Ordinary Iraqi citizens must see that military operations are accompanied by visible improvements in their neighborhoods and communities. So America will hold the Iraqi government to the benchmarks it has announced.

Recently, the media revealed - and the White House confirmed - that Gen. David Petraeus's much-anticipated September report on Iraq will "actually be written by the White House." But this week, Petraeus assured lawmakers that he won't let the White House interfere with his analysis: Gen. David Petraeus, who is scheduled to brief Congress in two weeks on the progress in Iraq, assured lawmakers this week that the administration is not involved in the writing of his report, according to a lawmaker who has recently returned from the region.
Remember Petraeus has earlier stated that it takes ten years and twice as many troops as are currently detailed in Iraq for a counter insurgency strategy to succeed. He
also has admitted that when April comes around the surge will have to wind down as there aren't any troops to replace our soldiers with. Why are we allowing another troop die when this can't go on long enough for it to have any chance to succeed? Why are we pissing away $50 billion more when our own domestic needs aren't being met?
You can't see the forest for the trees, but all you have to remember is that if you aren't a "Pioneer" or "Ranger" you lose. Rove's attack politics depends on confusing the apathetic red staters with sound-byte campaigns. Their mentor, the "intellectually incurious" one--the former captain of the cheerleading squad, can look you in the eye and lieto his intended audience of the uninformed with the best of them, about everything, including the Petraeus report.
