As her case was brought to the world stage by the BBC, this same report concerning Maria’s birthday did report where two nameless Palestinian boys and a nameless Palestinian girl lost their lives in this undeclared war. We all must mourn their deaths. If these deaths were of Israeli children the same mourning should also take place.
The last part of this report did not surprise me in the least as a fifteen-year-old boy from Gaza was arrested “on his way to a suicide bombing against Israeli soldiers.” This is the blow-back affect that I have often spoken of in previous articles. Violence only begets violence. This violence has taken a cyclical hold on this region and I am at a loss and do suppose many others are in how to stop it. All I will say is that I urge both Israelis and Palestinians to come together and end this violence for the sake of their children. How many more Maria’s will we hear of? One is already too many.
I do think that is where the media comes in by naming these victims of violence and incorporating that into list similar to that ‘murder board’. This way we can all bear witness to their pain and suffering and hold those accountable for this pain and suffering.
To all warring factions, we have now seen the name of two victims and I do suppose we shall see the names of others into the future and we expect accountability from all of you. I do not care if you are a government, a government agency, a terrorist, a bomber or a masked madman, by harming these children you should be condemned.
In closing, I want to wish Maria Amin a happy sixth birthday. She deserves many more happy birthdays to come. Keep on being that insistent little girl, Maria.
