And back to my young graduate school critic: without giving you reams of paper with lots of data (that you probably won't read) let's just say our population is living longer due to great improvements in medical care. As the "baby boomers" live into their seventh and eighth decades of life, we need to know how we intend to manage their daily lives, their medical needs and their final moments.
We are gaining a swelling population of older Americans. Meanwhile, our younger generation is not producing the numbers of children we once saw in America. The end result is: fewer younger people are paying to support more older (and getting into advanced age) people.
But one solution may just be right in front of us: if we have the wisdom to embrace it.
You don't have to be Asian to understand the joys of family.
