After a brief waiting period I was again contacted by Mr. Rowsom and informed that "after serious consideration" "I do not think that this event is appropriate for USS Constellation."
Taking into account the historic significance of USS Constellation, one certainly can understand that there is much concern for the overall well being of such a distinguished ship and national icon.
I was under the impression that the purpose of a museum is to allow us to step back into our history so that we may better identify with our heritage, ancestors and the events which carved what we now proudly call “the land of the free”. One is left to concur that Mr. Rowsom considers the USS Constellation to be of more significance as a “national icon”, than The Boston Tea Party is to American history and independence. Surely that can’t be what he is saying.
The ship is available in the evenings for private dinner parties ($1,500.00 for 3 hours catering not included) and hosts a New Year’s Eve celebration, begetting one very simple question deserving of an answer.
Why would a reenactment of The Boston Tea Party aboard the USS Constellation Museum be any less "appropriate”?
One can only wonder.
