Well, one can only guess. Was the Democrat (heretofore my lifelong affiliation) disturbed by my criticism of his enunciated proposition that to "rush" action to end the Iraq War and to "push" impeachment of the war-liars could likely cost us votes"?
.
Was the Republican soured by my position that we needed a national medical program the likes of every other industrialized nation in the world?
.
Was the Communist disturbed over my dispassionate reminder that his preferred means of governance bode none to well in practice for the peoples of the Soviet Union, Eastern Europe, Cambodia, North Korea, et al, and that I preferred -- regardless of current malfunction -- to endorse the republic model?
.
Beats me! Those are only guesses.

Well, what do I want for a government? It's a bit loose and not dominated by the banner of any specific political party, thereby apparently anathema to some. What I want is a government chosen by a majority of its citizens in valid elections, to try honestly as it can, to serve the best interests of as many of us it possibly can, most of the time.
.
Will such a government ever make mistakes? Will it ever suffer from dishonest insiders? Of course, it is after all an organ composed of a multitude of fallible humans. In such cases, I would frankly be not too disturbed by personal veniality (e.g. a bit of sex on the side) but would have a quite harsh reaction to such issues as massive graft at the people's expense or lies to justify slaughterous war.
.
For some years now, it has been to my profound sadness to realize that our current government does not measure up to such a standard, and that its putative opposition -- though now in the majority of our Congress -- generally lacks the idealism and the mettle to turns things about.
.
Is there some hope for America? Only, I suspect, if more citizens come to realize that they have been used, that their bumper stickers and now even their flags have become the devices of unworthy masters who would profit, or indulge their egos, or nourish their madness at the people's peril.
