Here's a thought. Though the US is Israel's primary ally it is the one country that could end the war in Gaza rather quickly.
Here's how. Deploy the US military off the coast of Gaza in the Mediterranean Sea telling the IDF to halt its assault on Gaza or it will intervene directly with its military.
Bang. The war in Gaza would end. But would the US make such a bold move? Of course not. Besides that's not what the US military is used for.
Meanwhile the UN Security Council continues to be hamstrung from calling a cease fire in Gaza because the US vetoes such a move. It spouts it's only up to Israel and Hamas to end the war.
Actually Egypt and Qatar tried to mediate negotiations between Israel and Hamas last week but were unsuccessful after disagreements occurred. The Israeli's accused Egypt and Qatar of siding with Hamas after the two countries suggested a cease fire in exchange for the release of Hamas prisoners held in Israel.
Apparently Israel refused to unconditionally release the Hamas militants it holds at the groups request. Thus the impasse on the Egyptian and Qatari efforts.
So the war in Gaza goes on unabated.
Here in the US college student protests against Israel's aggression against the Palestinian's in Gaza continues to grow. Even some faculty members have joined the student protests and some of them have lost their jobs as administrators in these institutions have been siding with the police to crack down on the protests.
As published three weeks ago in this space, "Why are the Constitutionally protected rights of peaceful assembly being violated by police on US college campuses", OPEDNEWS, April 30. 2024.
Such a development in the US reveals authorities whether they be college administrators to governmental officials are willing to ignore the Constitutionally protected rights of people to protest against wrongdoing as they see it.
And no dissembling nonsense by "officials" can camouflage what they are doing by illegally cracking down on the people's right to assemble and protest.
These protests by college students and some faculty won't stop the war but they do give voice to the Palestinian victims suffering from the IDF's indiscriminate assault on Gaza..
