Feeling what it's like is a start. George Zimmerman, the volunteer, became the vigilante, following Trayvon Martin when the police told him not to, thus triggering the feelings and memories of all the daily humiliating, threatening and death-dealing experiences of black and brown males across America.
How would it feel to deal with across-the-board daily put-downs by the society one is born into, watch as those in the majority get a pass from the law, and realize that the majority is in denial about all the hoops one has to jump through because of one's color. As long as America shuts its eyes and covers its ears, there will be other vigilantes and other Trayvon Martins. Now is a chance to walk in each others' shoes and be done with the heartbreak of crossing each other off.
