Towards A Just and Equitable Economy Exemplified by United Kingdom's Time Bank Initiative

You do one hour's worth of service; you get one time dollar.

So, let's go to the land of the Beatles and Rolling Stones to see what radical things they are doing in this day and age.

The New Economics Foundation (NEF) is the UK's think tank promoting social, economic and environmental justice. Their aim is to transform the economy so that it works for people and the planet. They are "for the people" and not the corporation. NEF's website currently states the following regarding our current economics:

The way we do business in the world is unsustainable, unfair and unstable. It is not even making us any happier -- many of the richest countries in the world do not have the highest wellbeing.

The NEF website goes on to say:

From climate change to the financial crisis it is clear the current economic system is not fit for purpose. We need a great transition to a new economics that can deliver for people and the planet.

NEF's mission is to kick-start the move to a new economy. In so doing, they are fostering:

1. High quality, ground-breaking research that shows what is wrong with the current economy and how it can be better

2. Demonstrating the power of our ideas by putting them into action

3. Working with other organizations in the UK and across the world, to build a movement for economic change

According to their website, NEF is fully independent of any political party. They rely on donations and help from thousands of supporters to effect social change. Power to the people!

One word that for many will create anxiety is the term devolution. The mindset of the dominant (and dominated by banksters and CEOs) culture is "Onward and upward; bigger is better." Guess what: that's not what evolution is about. Ask the dinosaurs. I personally understand the relevance of the term "devolution" and support it regarding the devolution of our current economy. I also realize the devolution of humanity in general as reflected in the line-up of intelligences in the race for the Republican nomination for President of the United States.

Thus I say we have devolved in the current corporate paradigm. Listen to Trump for 30 seconds. And then there is Sarah Palin and Ted Cruz. As I stated in my last article regarding Transition Town in the United States, we have devolved in body, mind and spirit. While we have cars that go "zoom-zoom" and airplanes that can break the sound barrier ("boom-boom"); we, ourselves, have not evolved.

Let's use flying as an example. What if our criteria for evolution were not the building of an airplane, but growing wings instead? Like fetal development, evolution is from the inside / out; from center to periphery. True evolution is an unfolding from within the core of our essence.
