every kind of bestiality, homosexuality, lesbianism - --" everything that the
Bible condemns."

say you're supposed to be nice to the Episcopalians and the Presbyterians and
the Methodists and this, that, and the other thing. Nonsense. I don't have to
be nice to the spirit of the Antichrist."
"I
know it sounds cruel, but if he's going to do something, he should divorce her
and start all over again, but make sure she has custodial care and somebody
looking after her," - responding to a man who's wife has
Alzheimers .
"Many
of those people involved with Adolf Hitler were Satanists, many of them were
homosexuals--the two things seem to go together."
There are a great many other quotes that are
enshrined in "Crazy Pat Robertson Quotes" sites. There are a good
many video compilations (like the one below) backing up the claims of senility,
but the latest and perhaps the most unhinged of all (after he proposed the
"vomit" button for Facebook) is this one:
"I
am very pleased that we have many, many, many homosexuals watching this program
and many of them are looking for love and acceptance and help," Robertson
said. "And I'm glad to report that we have thousands of these people who
are saying, 'Yes, we want to follow Jesus. We're not happy with the lifestyle
we're in and we want to have a better way.' I think it's wonderful that that's
happening."
"And I just think, you know, we're not anti-gay or
anything." He also added that he though that gays are really just confused
straight people because they're not right with God.
To negate four decades of demonizing in one sentence is
irrational: the same kind of people he advocated being ejected from their
homes (while they were sick and dying) are the same kind of people he now says
are watching him for spiritual inspiration. Irrational. Laughable.Oddly
entertaining. And perhaps the only reason any gay person would ever view Pat
Robertson: camp value.
Making A Difference In People's Lives
Two years
ago, I was walking with my late partner after the cabaret community in San
Francisco had a benefit for him to pay medical bills. Each performer had
prefaced a song with what Michael had done for them. He turned to me and said
"Well, now I know I've made a difference in people's lives." He was
then at peace and was prepared for the end.
He should have said "a POSITIVE difference in people's lives," for there are people who have negative impact on the lives they touch. Such has been the way of Pat Robertson: for as many individuals swearing to Robertson's positive impact on them, there are perhaps millions who can recall how Robertson ruined lives through his constant demonizing. Especially when he was relatively lucid. Especially during the Age of AIDS.
