The President issued a Presidential Memorandum requiring Federal enforcement agencies to make publicly-available compliance information easily accessible, downloadable, and searchable online.

The President issued a Presidential Memorandum that directed executive departments and agencies and request independent agencies, when initiating rulemaking that would have a significant economic impact on a substantial number of small entities, to give serious consideration to whether and how it is appropriate, consistent with law and regulatory objectives, to reduce regulatory burdens on small businesses, through increased flexibility, including: 

1) extended compliance dates that takes into account the resources available to small entities

2) performance standards rather than design standards

3) simplification of reporting and compliance requirements (as, for example, through streamlined forms and electronic filing options)

4) different requirements for large and small firms; and

partial or total exemptions

The President met with United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates in the Oval Office of the White House. Source

The President spoke by telephone with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on a broad range of issues, including the New Year's Day attack on a Coptic Christian church in Alexandria, developments in Tunisia and Lebanon, and how best to advance Middle East peace. The President raised the latest developments in Tunisia, and shared with President Mubarak that the United States is calling for calm and an end to violence, and for the interim government of Tunisia to uphold universal human rights and hold free and fair elections in order to meet the aspirations of the Tunisian people. The President thanked President Mubarak for Egypt's support for Lebanese Prime Minister Hariri and the Special Tribunal for Lebanon that was attempting to end the era of impunity for political assassination in Lebanon. The President and President Mubarak also discussed ways to advance efforts on Middle East peace between the Israelis and Palestinians. Source

The President, in a released statement, expressed he was, -- deeply saddened to learn about the passing of Sargent Shriver, one of the brightest lights of the greatest generation ."

The President hosted a private dinner for China's President Hu Jintao in the Old Family Dining Room of the White House. Source
