When that happens the repercussions in the United States will begin in a big way as the same Congress that had been promoting and funding the war will suddenly feel a need to find appropriate scapegoats. And just guess who will be the first goat to be labeled as such. It will be no other than President Obama who will be vilified and denigrated without let up.
Just as President Johnson before him, he will see his chances for a second term go up in the flames of a failed war. His legacy, as told by historians, will be a president who stubbornly refused to end a war when all signs indicated that it had to be done. He will join the select group of failed American presidents.
If President Obama continues down this dangerous path, fully cognizant of the outcome of the Vietnam War, then his actions will provide a classic example of what happens when a leader not only fails to heed the lessons of history, but in fact, dares to defy them.
