In the interim, voters who insist on a way to express their opinion of the candidates in greater detail would enjoy that opportunity. And possibly at first, there would be more support for BAV+ than for BAV. It could be easier to get BAV+ adopted. If a large body of voters believe that BAV+ is the better system (in contrast to my own opinion) then there seems to be little harm in accommodating them. As a bonus, elections using BAV+ would provide an interesting experiment for determining how frequently BAV+ outcomes actually do conform to BAV outcomes.
It is worth noticing that most voters would probably be no more than vaguely aware of the distinction between BAV+ and score voting with five (or seemingly only four) scores. Voters will rarely research the details of how the ballots are counted; for them, such details are strictly matters for voting wonks. Broadly, voters are likely to only be concerned with what decisions they need to make and how they will fill out the ballot. They may or may not even be aware of whether the ballots are counted only once or twice.
