Any person can perform a disastrous act at any time, but the fact that we, as a global community, have been able to survive so far and have experienced a relatively limited number of these insane assaults, should be considered a hopeful sign about the human race. It demonstrates that, fortunately, those who walk around with destructive mindsets are a small minority. And while we should not underestimate the impact of this minority's actions, we should not acknowledge them too much either.
If there is anything we can learn from the Domodedovo suicide bombing, it is that all the security measures implemented in the past ten years, have only led to different strategies from those who have dead and destruction in mind. By jumping into an excessive safeguarding mode all over again, we therefore convey as great an acknowledgement as any bullying party can get. It is tough to be fearful inside while abstaining from showing it, but it will be much harder to implement continuously expansive, intrusive, and expensive security measures that will ultimately affect the quality of human life to such an extent that we will become prisoners of our cities or countries.
Adopting a mentality of non-recognition to attacks such as these is easier said than done, because the pressure from society is great, and governments risk major reputation damage and loss of trust if they don't undertake any action. Yet, communication is still a powerful instrument, not only toward innocent citizens, but also toward those who walk around with destructive frames of mind.
