Can inactive voters vote? This varies among states. In some you can call your elections registrar to get back your vote. Others required additional identification. Remarkably, in North Carolina, as a result of new, progressive legislation, during the early voting period you can register and vote on the same day (SDRsame-day registration).
Andrea's group sends out colorful, attention-getting postcards to all inactive voters to remind them to register and specifying the election registrar's phone number for any questions.
In the swing states of Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Florida, and Arizona there are Republican, anti-democratic legislatures; Pennsylvania, Michigan, North Carolina, and Wisconsin have Democratic governors.
Andrea's group has eight to ten thousand volunteers and so far has sent out 1.7 million postcards!
Alan Minsky, head of PDA, urged listeners to share the Voters' Calendar on Facebook and other social media. He doesn't trust other activist organizations. PDA will push it as well as they can.
Harvey urged listeners to avoid provisional ballots at all costs unless there's no alternative. But don't leave the polls without voting, even on a provisional ballot.
Egberto volunteered to publish any and all relevant information on his progressive radio talk show Politics Done Right. He can be reached at info@politicsdoneright.com.
Harvey then transitioned to the second of the trifecta, vote by mail. In Election 2004 in Ohio, the electronic voting machines "killed us." The vote count was flipped from Kerry's 200,000 vote lead to Bush's 120,000 vote "lead." Sixteen years later, throughout the country there has been a massive switch to paper ballot voting; 80 percent of the country votes on digital scanners. In 2004 in southwestern Ohio, three counties that were decisive did not even include Kerry's name on their ballots/touchscreens.
Now we must go country by county and state by state to proofread what they print to avoid such disasters; in Georgia's most recent election, not enough paper ballots were provided to accommodate all votersthere should always be extra ones at the polls to provide for exigencies.
Be sure that you receive either an application or a ballot and be sure to determine which it is. Applications for voting by mail should be ubiquitous. We must keep USPS in existence, battling Trump; be sure that ballots can be warehoused safely; and none should be counted before the evening of Election Day, November 3.
Susan Pynchon sadly reported that in Florida early votes are counted as they are received, as are mailed-in ballots.
"Trust but verify," Harvey injected, quoting Ronald Reagan.
According to two major court cases in Wisconsin, mailed-in ballots must be postmarked no later than Election Day; without postmarks they will not be counted. In its April primary, as many as 30,000 votes in this category went uncounted. The decision to count or not to count this category rests with the county supervisor.
Dropping off votes-by-mail at early voting centers is a good idea, said Mimi, or at the county registrar's office. Bring along the envelope in which the ballot was mailed to you. You can't drop it off at the polls on Election Day, but double check thisin Wisconsin you can, believe it or not. EARLY IS BEST, she said.
Said Harvey, in Florida Rick Scott won the Senate seat by 10,000 votes where an untold legion number were discarded. They simply stopped the vote count at a point when he was ahead. Shades of Florida 2000. He said that LeBron James is organizing an election protection group which will undoubtedly bring out many voters who can sway the election.
Steve Rosenfeld said that votes-by-mail entail volumes of paperwork many jurisdictions can't handle. In Georgia 100,000 applications weren't processed. They were understaffed, under-equipped, and under-resourced.
