Deepak Solanki, the CEO of Velmenni, discussed the matter with the International Business Times UK and indicated that it could be another three to four years before the technology is usable. His company, Velmenni, was responsible for recently testing the technology -- which they called Jungru -- that employs a similar setup: an LED bulb that transmits data at gigabit speeds. Most of the components and materials they used are laboratory-grade, which would not be viable in the real world.
