Marx saw the creation of a communist society, democratic, equal, and with none rich, none poor as based on the abolition of private property. By this, he did not mean your toothbrush, your house, your personal possessions, but rather the wealth created by labor and appropriated by the private owners of the means of production, which is then used to create more wealth. Capital and capitalism, by extension, Marx predicted thru capitalism's own internal logic would lead to ever increasing concentrations of wealth at the expense of labor, leaving in its wake massive poverty.
The theory of the Communists may be summed up in the single phrase: The abolition of private property.
