The reality as first reported by independent journalist Vanessa Beeley is the White Helmets are only found in areas of al Qaeda and ISIS. They carefully stage manage what appears to be serious injuries to innocent Syrian people but in reality they're playacting as victims. Videos are taken then sent to western MSM outlets such as CNN, BBC. The White Helmets are funded to the tune of millions by deep pocketed British interests as well as American billionaire George Soros.
Hollywood also produces films such as "Zero Dark Thirty" and "American Sniper", pure propaganda bilge extolling the American military as "heroes" to dumb downed American public .
The point to this little exercise is this. American and western media outlets are simply tools of the state including the nation's major newspapers New York Times and Washington Post, CNN, MSNBC, the BBC. In Europe along with the BBC, there's Le Monde in Paris, Der Spiegel in Germany, all MSM outlets spewing the government's line. No deviation permissible.
A former editor of Germany's Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, one Udo Ulfkotte who wrote a book, "Bought Journalists" where he revealed journalists were fed news stories by the CIA-including himself-then published in their newspapers.
Of course Ulfkotte was denigrated as a conspiracy theorist by Der Spiegel the leading newspaper in Germany.
So it's clear in America and the west deviating from the MSM company line is not permitted. Now it's only done on alternative news sites like this one, Information Clearing House, Consortium news, Counterpunch, Truthdig et al.
And to be sure the likes of Hedges, Parry and others like Ray McGovern, Finian Cunningham, Mike Whitney, Glenn Greenwald are all dismissed and marginalized as Putin stooges and purveyors of fake news.
"Journalists" in the MSM confine themselves within the government approved narrative as their "careers", livelihood, income, family obligations, mortgages would all be lost if they deviated from the company line. As to their conscience and integrity...let's face it they're sacrificed. But hey a few pills and a little booze can always suffice.
The idea of a "free press" isn't so free if there's no freedom to expose the lies of official government malfeasance
And even when its criminality can't be denied as happened at Abu Ghraib in Iraq in 2004 only low level enlisted military non-coms were held to account while those that authorized the torture were let off given a get out of jail free card.
Not exactly "everyone" held to the same standard was there. But that's equal justice under the law American style.
