It seems the central dichotomy of contemporary American Christianity, the differences between "hard" and "soft" practice of the faith. Unlike "soft" Christianity with it's more ethereal precepts, Rushdooney's "hard" Christian practice seems both fascinated with and repelled by other people's sexual habits. They like to talk about freedom, but asked to de-generalize, insist "freedom" comes with a prefix -- "Christian". Turns out "Christian Freedom" means the "freedom" to say "no" to "inappropriate" sexual activity, an injunction, in light of the death penalty list, assured to make any sensible self-abuser think twice, especially with the cameras they've talked of installing...
Now we can assume Miller, with eight children, is randy enough himself and obviously has nothing against traditional marital coupling. It's just what goes on before actual penetration that becomes dicy. However, with the likes of conservative Christian columnist Dennis Prager imploring "sex doesn't have to be intercourse" rules guiding marital "relations" seem to have eased up a bit. But get involved in a same gender relationship, well, you're history, girlfriend.
His views on abortion are, naturally enough, as extreme as the winters he and his family must endure every year. No abortions unless the life of the mother is threatened, end of story. One can only imagine obstetricians arguing with creepy church deacons over just what, exactly, constitutes "life threatening" in a quite literal "death panels" behind the curtains in operating rooms nationwide.
Perhaps from his experience in the courtroom, Miller is already a master dissembler. Just watching him feint and dodge his way around FOX reporter Chris Wallace's relatively soft ball interrogation was a sight to see. Asked about what happens to the poor once Social Security, food stamps, and unemployment insurance (pet peeves) are removed, Miller couldn't even answer the question, instead ducking back to his eccentric interpretations of Constitutional imperatives as if Wallace were just another deer in his rifle sights. Watching him lie straight-faced reminded me that once a national Christian Government (theonomy) is established they're going to need every extra body for the wars they're just waiting to start in the name of both God and Mammon. No jobs combined with no social safety net is a wonderful way to get this particular ball rolling. You can practically see the dry, delirious spittle on the this ethical abomination's lips as he breaks the 9th commandment (the "no perjury" one) over and over and over again. One can only stare in awe at the hypocrisy of it all.
But even more disturbing is Miller's hale and hearty endorsement by various right-wing militia groups in the state. Worse, Miller fancies himself a "secessionist" in the Rick Perry mold. Alarmingly enough, he looks like an old-time rebel militiaman as well -- actually more a Confederate liaison officer to Quantrill's Raiders, what with his fashionably malignant half-beard, lean, angular face and thin sociopath's smile. It's not hard to imagine him astride a mighty steed, resplendent in gold-braided field grey, picking off Yankees, six shot Colt in hand, with a kind of malicious gleam in his eyes, like a kid whose just pulled his first wings off of a fly.
Rumor has these successionist tendencies are motivated by a proposed land grab in or near Denali National Park for the oil and other goodies buried beneath. This "land grab", purportedly in concert with another Alaskan political novice's husband (also a best friend of), screams the Articles of Confederation while happily rending poor, dear Alaska as a kind of laboratory for utilization of the Dominionist's 7 Step Plan -- Christian influence over every facet of life (theonomy).
How that plan would pan out has been detailed by Dominionist hack George Grant in deliriously ecstatic prose;
"Christians have an obligation, a mandate, a commission, a holy responsibility to reclaim the land for Jesus Christ -- to have dominion in civil structures just as in every over aspect of life and godliness. But it is dominion we are after. Not just a voice. It is dominion we after. Not just influence. It is dominion we are after. Not just equal time. It is dominion we are after. World conquest. That's what Christ has commissioned us to accomplish. We must win the world for the power of the Gospel. And we must never settle for anything else... Thus, Christian politics has as its primary intent the conquest of the land -- of men, families, institutions, bureaucracies, courts and governments for the Kingdom of Christ."
