With such examples people from the former Soviet Union with a very limited knowledge of English language and totally dependent on the way their media presents the reality think that here they can reveal themselves and be successful. That’s what they do. Frequently it looks like a parade of ugly, hairy butts. Especially when it comes to the International Congress of the Russian- Speaking Jewry (!) or ‘Israel is in our hearts’ or ‘ Stances to the Jewish woman’ or opinions about America.
Yes, that’s something, isn’t it? Several days before the Election Day the Russian- ethnic media published a hysterical message to all of us from one Victor T., that Rush Limbaugh of the Russian – Jewish community in New York. In that opus he begged us to vote against Obama (mind you, Russians always vote against someone; they never vote for someone- MS). He called Obama a demagogue, a dangerous man with leftie- socialist tendencies, the one who would ruin our security and, of course, there was a transparent winking about him being a black man. That is because in the ethnic media the several following postulates constitute a mantra about our beloved America:
· America is great but there are too many black people.
· America is great but there are too many other immigrants (no kidding- MS).
· America is great but it should kill all the Arabs for us.
· America is great but Bush and Cheney should be proclaimed Consuls for Life.
· America is doomed because of gays, diversity, women rights and Barack Obama.
Reality bites though. Jews from the Soviet Union have much more in common with those ‘other immigrants’ than they could possibly imagine. We are not white (if there is such thing as whiteness- MS) and surely closer ethnically to a falafel seller in Detroit or Jerusalem than to Pat Buchanan or Ann Colteur, thank God. Also, limited knowledge of the English language cuts my fellow-immigrants from all English- speaking sources although they don’t care. They ‘know better’. That’s why they continue to deceive themselves and call the NPR a National Palestinian Radio. Once there was the time when I was thinking it was all due to the economy, them being poor and dependent. But recently I had reconsidered. That is when I understood better that beautiful phrase from the movie American President (and Michael Douglas said it so well- MS):
