There is an answer. The number was also associated with Nero, the Roman emperor who put many Christians to death in ancient times. (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/religion/2823957/posts)

The numbers associated with the letters of his name spelled out '666'. If people were murdering my children and spouse, calling him an anti-Christ would be way too nice.

How does this relate to those shootings in South Carolina?

Nero has won the day. The murder of those people in South Carolina IS a murder of Christ. Many Christians are nothing less than modern day Romans. (I don't want this taken as a generalization. Many Christians are true to the nature of Christ as presented in the New Testament).

As Bob Dylan sings in his "Desolation Row," "Fearing not I became my enemy in the instant that I preached." Rome won out over the truth Christ spoke. We are nothing less than the Roman Empire in our governance and religious ideologies. (Again, I'm over generalizing. There are people in organized religions who don't play Nero's game).

Preaching dogma IS the problem. We are all lovers of ideals, theories and philosophies. What if we let go of these and become like Jesus who said, "Be like an infant"? Get past the words and into the reality is what Christ is truly saying. Be without thoughts and philosophies in order to enter a state of unconditioned being.

We have divorced ourselves from Nature, i.e., our Self. In this we have created an alienated world for ourselves. This divorce is reflected in loving a a Drama Queen more so than Lady Wisdom. Thus we kiss up to the latest fad that the corporations manufacture to keep them rich and you in poverty. We allow them to keep us from knowing ourselves, and our world, through drama shows, comedy and fake sexual presentations of both women and men. The consequence to this is that we miss our true meaning of life in relationship to the functioning whole.

In truth we are like Christ and are here for the sake of everything else while everything else is in service to us.
