So how was Killer Mike's exaggeration received by Democrats that night? Not well at all. The crowd applauded throughout Clinton's address moments before. They went relatively silent for his angry discourse, though, except for a shout of "wrong" when he refers to Williams. And thanks to the national media that were broadcasting it, Killer Mike's negative exaggeration was seen by Democratic voters all across the state, and the country, too.
Just 24 hours later, Sanders' claim to 31 percent of South Carolina voters dropped to 26, and the 11-percent undecided went to Clinton.
Sanders already caught flak for other comments Killer Mike made. At a February 17 rally in Atlanta, the rap artist offered a quote he attributed to a well-known women's rights advocate who doesn't support Clinton:
"I talked to Jane Elliot, and she said 'Michael, a uterus doesn't qualify you to be president of the United States.'"
Sanders later defended that comment. "What Mike said essentially is that ... people should not be voting for candidates based on their gender, but based on what they believe. I think that makes sense. [...] I think the media is blowing this thing up."
