It was the same greed and power mongering by corporations (The East India Trading Company sold more than tea. It traded in opium and slaves.) and government (King George) that set off the 'shot heard round the world' of the American Revolution. Well, this time the shot has almost killed the rest of the world. And it's up to us to stop it once again, this time in a bloodless revolution. It's time for humanity to take responsibility for what's happening to our world and to the Earth. And that begins with individual responsibility. That's Capricorn's lesson.
Capricorn is an Earth sign, and is concerned with law and order, so it can be effective in dealing with how we use our collective resources. If Obama is really the man of the hour he seems to be, we have a chance to enact that bloodless revolution I mentioned. But we can't be foolish and think that the hidden plutocracy of the ruling class will let their power go without a struggle. We have to stand up for creating a new social order. That's the promise of Pluto in Capricorn.
So why is this New Moon in Capricorn so important? Since new Moons are seed times, we can focus our intentions toward how we want to make our mark in the world. Since the Winter Solstice marks the yearly birthday of the Sun, this holiday season represents in miniature the whole rest of the year. This new moon marks the beginning of monumental personal and collective change. All of the planets except Saturn are in the universal signs of Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces and until Saturn turns retrograde on December 31st, all the planets are in forward motion. Since Saturn rules Capricorn, and is now slowing down in the sign of Virgo, it is pushing us to take responsibility for our individual lives, grounding us in practicality and service. Now is the time to dream of how we can be of service to the greater good.
Mars joins Pluto in Capricorn, exactly conjoining the day after the new Moon. Mars and Pluto have a lot in common: Mars rules the personal will, while Pluto is the higher octave of Mars and rules divine will. When they join forces, they generate the will power to transform our relationship to the physical world. We can stop global warming. We can stop war. We can stop hunger. We can stop the negative power of patriarchy. We just need the Will to do it. This Mars/Pluto conjunction has the power to transform the negative expression of the masculine patriarchy, which rules the world through domination and destruction.
This transformation of negative masculine energy is aided this new Moon by the Venus/Neptune conjunction in Aquarius. Venus is not only the power of love and sexuality, she is an aspect of the sacred feminine, the heavenly woman of wisdom. Joined with Neptune, this sacred wisdom says if we have unconditional love for ourselves, we can have unconditional love for everyone else. And we need to at this moment in our history, for we have never been so interconnected and dependent on each other.
Patriarchy has denied the power of the sacred feminine for thousands of years, and yet look at what this stubborn denial has brought us to. If we are to face the issues of our dying planet, we have to do it in the spirit of cooperation and peace. I saw the movie The Day the Earth Stood Still and was unsurprised that it was the power of feminine love and connectedness that saved the Earth.
We need to uplift and value feminine consciousness and wisdom if we are going to solve our collective problems. It was, after all, a woman who gave birth to the Savior. It isn't enough to give social equality to women if we don't value women's ways of being and knowing. We have to stop expecting women to act and feel like men – Hilary was sincere in her tears and she shouldn't have been attacked for them. We need more tears in our leaders. Without that deep spiritual equality of masculine and feminine energies, the masculine energy gets twisted into domination and destruction. It's time to vote that destructive energy out of office for good.
With Mars, Pluto, Sun, Moon, Hera, Mercury and Jupiter all in Capricorn, focus on taking responsibility for your personal finances, your work goals, your relationship to masculine power structures. The North Node, Chiron, Venus and Neptune in Aquarius open the door to healing, so we understand how we are all connected at this moment in history and how we must meet this moment with the power of love and feminine wisdom. With Uranus in Pisces still opposed to Saturn in Virgo, we are continuing to ground a new vision of life which insists that if we believe in the power of Spirit, we have to take a stand for our beliefs.
