But this new Moon will change the lunar cycle for the next 18 months, initiating a shift in our perceptions as we experience the full Moon in a sign before its new Moon. We get to see how we deal with the various aspects of our lives before we plant new seeds of change. The 'seeds you plant' at this Cancer new Moon come out of the realizations you made since the lunar eclipse two weeks ago, and these new seeds will manifest in next month's Leo/Aquarius full Moon eclipse. The different energies involved (watery new Moon with fire/air full Moon) make for greater tension, but also greater self-awareness. Our emotions (water) get to be examined (air) with greater consciousness (fire).
As you can see, the energy is stepped up yet again. It is more intense, so you can either stress out or throw off the yokes of tyranny in your life. If money is a source of stress, make do with less. Declare bankruptcy and get rid of old debts that belong to the old way of life you're leaving behind. If relationships are stuck in old wounded patterns, they'll fall apart. Decide if you love that person, and if you do, leave the past behind and begin over again on higher ground. The past is what we learned with, the future is what we do with that knowledge. If you don't have work, dig into your creativity and use the energy to create something for yourself. Or organize your house. This is a time to nurture your Self your soul. It's time to give yourself to the things that are most important to you.
Cancer, the 4th sign of the zodiac, belongs to the archetype of the Great Mother goddess. Cancer is the Moon's own sign, energizing the creation of forms and the nurturing of those forms. The Moon rules the birth-growth-death cycles of life as well as the emotional body within us. The gifts of Cancer are creativity, nurturance, protection, sensitivity, empathy, care-giving and emotional intelligence. The fears of Cancer are centered around emotional security, family, food and home.
We can see that our government's response to 9/11 did not keep us safe from the terrorists, because in going to war, we created tremendous homelessness in America. What we did in Iraq has come home to roost. There are tent cities in Los Angeles and elsewhere people are losing their homes, their emotional security and their families. In putting our resources into war instead of into our 'homeland', we have bankrupt our nation. Ask people why they feel insecure, and it isn't terrorists they blame. It's the economy that has failed us, because we now see how capitalism ran amok. What about our food supply? It's basically poisoned, as you can see in the movie Food, Inc.
We have obviously not learned the real lessons of democracy, because we have let ourselves be ruled by rich industrialists and their media flunkies. If this isn't a lesson in what makes for security, what is? I don't know what else we need to experience to understand that war and greed and the urge to power will never give us security. The only way to be secure is to find our inner peace and emotional security. That's something to meditate on this new Moon eclipse.
We can never create security by going to war. But we can create real security by opening to the feminine spirit that is rooted in Cancer. Just as Cancer sits at the bottom of the solar chart, representing Mother, home and family, it also represents our inner being, our soul. And it is there that we have to look for our emotional security not outwardly in money and social position. I hope that lesson came home to you after the lunar eclipse a few weeks ago.
