Lastly, other legislators need to use Rep. Kucinich's legislation as a springboard to begin a movement to examine every element of the monumental Defense Budget. Doing this could start a massive argument and debate and lots of opposition from the proponents of continuous war by members of Congress, the Obama administration, the Pentagon and the defense industry. But that is exactly what is needed; a massive debate to either justify elements of the budget or to kill any that are not needed or wasteful. The rubber stamping of requests for defense department budget supplementals must be ended.
Yes, I know that what I suggest is far easier said than done; it's easier to do nothing as has been the case. But, our wars are breaking the bank; transnational corporations are tearing up our manufacturing base and our politicians have sold themselves to the highest bidder. This system is, without a doubt completely broken and it's up to each one of us to fix it. Millions and millions of Americans must personally enter into this fight for our survival; sitting on the sidelines in passive silence will bring this nation down.
Do we as a nation and people have the courage and conviction to bring about these revolutionary changes? Up to now, the answer has been a resounding no! So, if we remain passive and unresponsive in this growing crisis, then we better not even think about the consequences that will follow.
