In Holland, the problem is known and the solution is carried out. In the U.S. the problem is known but the solution is ignored and catastrophe results.

"Fracking" is a process of fracturing rock below the surface by a pressurized liquid of water mixed with sand and chemicals injected at high pressure to release natural gas from shale rock thousands of feet below the surface and forcing it upward where it can be captured. However fracking is known to seep into and contaminate ground water, yet efforts to end the practice, though occurring in some states, is daunting, up against deep pocketed energy interests that have secured contracts in states and localities to continue their operations despite the mounting evidence to its dangers. Result; most fracking operations continue.

College student debt is reported to be over a trillion dollars with high interest rates by the lending institutions. Meanwhile the big banks receive billions in loans from the Federal Reserve at near zero interest rates.

Sure its unfair gouging students with debt they may never be able to repay. But what voice do they have beyond a few lawmakers with a conscience who raise the issue? Compare that with the army of lobbyists representing the big banks planted in Congressional offices and it doesn't take a genius to see why the banks get a free ride and the students get stiffed.

On and on it goes. The "pittance" thrown our way even as our labors and efficiency have increased is growing less and less while the income disparity between the richest .001% and the rest are growing greater than ever.

Sadly, it'll all continue as long as we let it.
